Building a statewide Prescription Assistance Program: New Hampshire's Experience

Webinar Date:
June 30, 2011

Presented By:
Bernie Cameron
Community Health Coordinator
Foundation for Healthy Communities

Description:

For many individuals pharmaceutical company patient assistance programs are the only option for medication assistance. Yet using these programs can be daunting for consumers and time consuming for providers. The New Hampshire Medication Bridge, a public-private partnership, was begun in response to this issue. Over the 11 years since it started the Medication Bridge has established 46 sites across the state and helped individuals with one million prescriptions. This webinar will review the creation of the program, discuss the “do’s and don’ts” of getting a program off the ground, identify key elements and successful strategies for community engagement and outreach and provide specific suggestions for staffing, funding and data collection.

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand the key elements required to get a program off the ground
  • Identify successful strategies for community engagement and outreach
  • Describe the required skills of prescription assistance staff and how to think “outside the box” when recruiting for those skills.
  • Identify ongoing program needs such as data collection, funding, and training
